Mastering the Deadlift

author - ren caldwell strength and conditioning

The deadlift is one of the best exercises to improve core stability, increase strength and coordination in your posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, back) and build a strong foundation for hip-driven power! It’s also one of the hardest exercises to master in terms of form. This RenFitness “My Favorite Move” will take you through the safety considerations, cuing, and common mistakes of the deadlift.

We use this version of the deadlift in phase 3 of the off season of The Ultimate Athlete Project where the main focus is building strength near the max strength end of the spectrum. In off season phase 3 we emphasize the main lifts, Squat, Deadlift, Pullups, and Bench Press with high weight and low repetition.

The My Favorite Move series is one of the many resources you can find on RenFitness Virtual. While The Ultimate Athlete Project tells you what to do each day of your training, Ren Fitness Virtual provides more in depth explanations of many of the exercises we do as well as online clinics on a variety of topics.  If you’re already an Ultimate Athlete Project member, you can get a discount on your first month of RenFitness Virtual.
